To browse Academia. The prevalence of viral and bacterial sexually transmitted diseases were studied in men attending a dermatovenereal outpatient clinic in Mogadishu. A control group of healthy adult men were included for the serological part of the study.
All sera were tested for syphilis markers. Hepatitis B virus carriers were detected more frequently in the study group than among the controls. No sera were found to contain HIV antibodies. No significant difference between the groups was observed for HBV. Background: Sexually transmitted infections STIs are a public health problem worldwide. Female sex workers FSWs continue to be a high-risk group for STIs due to a variety of factors, including exposure to unsafe sexual practices.
Socio-demographic and behavioral data were collected using a questionnaire. Five milliliters 5mL of venous blood was collected and tested for hepatitis B surface antigens, anti-hepatitis C antibodies, and anti-syphilis antibodies using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Logistic regression, univariate, and multivariate analyses were carried out. Results: A total of FSWs were included in the study. All three infections were statistically associated with inconsistent condom use.
