The sought-after Boulevard area is known for historic houses from cottage to mansion-sized, with an eclectic but truly Athens feel and is home to Chase Street Elementary.
Located north of Prince Avenue, one third of a mile from Downtown Athens, the Boulevard neighborhood was established in the late 19th century as a streetcar suburb. This area takes you back to simpler days with older homes and carefully restored warehouses.
Cobb first subdivided his farm near town and advertised 80 lots for sale in Before the Civil War, Cobbham consisted mainly of substantial homes and dependencies occupying entire blocks, many with gardens and pasture land. After the war Victiorian houses began to appear betwen the antebellum homes. At the Five Points intersection you can mail letters, enjoy a classic soda fountain at Add Drug, try some hand-crafted chocolates at Condor, shop for organic groceries at Earthfare and indie books at Avid Bookshop, pick up a baguette at Independent, or grab a pint at The Royal Peasant and a meal at Donna Changs.
Home to the much-desired Barrow Elementary, Five Points is a quiet place to raise kids, or to kick back and enjoy retirement. Also in the Chase Street Elementary district. Walk to an array of retail shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and craft breweries without having to park. Easily access a spectrum of activities on campus at the University of Georgia from concerts, lectures, plays, classes to sports events, or walk to exhibits at the Georgia Museum of Art and Russell Special Collections Library.
