Warning: This video may be graphic for some viewers. WFLA — A driver is accused of intentionally trying to kill a police officer in South Florida after a video captured Tuesday shows the vehicle ramming into the cop and a bystander.
A few seconds later, the officer was struck a second time. A woman parked her vehicle and told the officer she could help provide a witness statement to the crash. In an arrest report, the woman described the event, telling officials that it was clear the driver, identified as Terence Eugene Powell, Jr. The arrest report said the suspect tried to hit the officer for a third time but missed and struck a tree instead.
Powell then drove off, traveling the wrong way on Sunset Strip, before he was stopped by Lauderhill and Plantation police officers on West Sunrise Boulevard. The report said both the cop and pedestrian were hospitalized and are in stable condition. Powell was taken to the Sunrise Police Department for further investigation.
He is facing charges of two counts of attempted premeditated murder and aggravated battery on an officer. Copyright Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
