It corrects the error whereby a duty of from 15 to 50 cents per pound is impo ed ou sweetened chocolate, and fixes th duty at 2 cents per pound.
On motion of Mr. Meredith, of Virginia, a resolu tion was adopted calling on the civil service commission for information as to whether there are on the eligible list of typewriters aud stenographers, women, who have passed the examination and have not received appointments and whether any department refuses to accep' women as stenographers and typewriters, The house then went into committee oi the whole, Mr. Lester, of Georgia, in the chair, for further consideration of the sundry civil appropriation bill.
The pending amendment was that offered by Mr. Richardson, of Tenn. Rejected by a vote of 91 to Agreed to with out opposition. The house adjourned till Tuesday on account of Monday being decoration day.
