An off-duty Fort Lauderdale Police officer shot and killed a man at an RV park marina after the property manager asked him to handle a disturbance Wednesday night, the department said. Jonathan Bohm about a man at the property who was creating a disturbance, spokesperson Casey Liening said in a news release Thursday night.
Bohm arrived in an unmarked police car and asked over radio for other officers to come as back up shortly before p. The dispatcher asked if the man had any weapons or if he saw any. Orozco was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. It was not clear from the news release whether Bohm was already on the property when the manager asked him for help.
Liening said there were no calls made, and Bohm was not wearing a body-worn camera. He has been placed on paid administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates, as is standard procedure.
It was at least the third shooting so far in involving Fort Lauderdale officers. On Jan. Police officers said they heard a loud noise coming from a closet in which Brandon Allen Mitchell, who was wanted on warrants, allegedly was hiding.
An Eaton Rapids man was convicted of assaulting and unlawfully imprisoning three teenage girls in August of in rural Eaton County. A mother of a sixth grader said her daughter was inappropriately touched by a teacher who is now on leave.
