The Specialized Donor Program is looking for healthy participants to give a variety of collections β including white blood cells β called Leukopaks. Collected cells are used by Red Cross cell and gene therapy partners that are researching or producing therapies to treat diseases such as cancer or autoimmune conditions. Based on your program eligibility our staff may contact you to schedule a collection appointment. You will be compensated based on appointment type. You may routinely give. There is a day waiting period between collections. Eligibility expires after days. Simply repeat the prescreen to renew your eligibility. Nearly 75 years after we pioneered the first civilian volunteer blood program, we pride ourselves on consistently working on uncovering new ways to help others. Appointments typically scheduled Monday β Friday. Schedule a Prescreen Appointment. Call to schedule an in-person appointment with a Red Cross staff member who will ask a series of questions to determine if you meet the health requirements for participation. At your prescreen, samples of blood will be drawn for testing purposes. Results are reviewed by medical staff to determine program eligibility. The review process can take weeks. Your prescreen results are valid for 90 days.
Based on your eligibility. If your prescreen test results determine that you qualify as an eligible candidate for the program, you may be contacted to schedule an appointment to give a collection.
The need for collections and the type of collections vary and are dependent on what our cell and gene therapy partners need at any given time. When we contact you, we will let you know which type of collection is needed at that time, along with the length of the appointment and compensation amount.
