Residents in the gated Montecito community said they were shocked by the ongoings on Peregrine Court. Many still are on edge for fear of retaliation from unsavory characters who converged on the quiet cul-de-sac that is home to families and a day care center.
After three months of surveillance, police on Tuesday arrested one woman after an undercover officer made contact on Craigslist and was directed to the Peregrine address. It was the latest in a number of prostitution stings in Contra Costa County, where authorities have been coping with the oldest profession as it moves into the Internet age. You just hope to control it and keep it to a minimum. After his death, the women stopped leaving the house for jobs and began summoning customers to the house.
We started to notice a number of men that fit the profile of a John customer frequenting the house. One man stopped by police as he drove away identified himself as a university professor who admitted he paid a woman he met on the Internet for sex. Police said he avoided arrest because investigators did not witness the solicitation. Officers on Tuesday arrested year-old Trevonta Lankford on suspicion of solicitation, a misdemeanor, after she offered to perform sex acts on the undercover officer in exchange for money, Parodi said.
Charges are pending. In an upstairs bedroom, officers found a year-old Indiana woman in her underwear. The execution of a search warrant netted garbage cans filled with used condoms and sex toys, a computer used to post erotic ads and a detailed appointment book. Parodi said the 3,square-foot house recently went into foreclosure after the owner stopped making payments.
