Using data from crime statistics on mt. Before Yellowstone County prosecutors charged Timothy Allen Westervelt last month with multiple counts of child sex abuse, he had already been a busy man in Billings. Timothy Allen Westervelt, shown in this cropped photo, was an active member of the Montana Militia, an organization that touts members across Montana and in Wyoming.
Just before his arrest in January, the year-old self-proclaimed commander of a local militia had been working at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, a residential treatment facility for troubled youth. He was fired amid an internal investigation into allegations of molesting two girls at the ranch.
While employed at the treatment facility, Westervelt, who was already a convicted felon for impersonating a police officer, was also posing as a bail bond agent, publishing his apparent arrests on social media.
Westervelt is currently being held at the Yellowstone County Detention Facility on a six-figure bond. For years leading up to his arrest, he had a history of being an imposter. That history is documented in the numerous charges and complaints now filed against him. In late January, law enforcement in Livingston arrested Westervelt after a brief armed standoff in a local coffee shop. A day prior, he had been charged in Yellowstone County District Court with four felonies alleging he sexually abused a year-old girl.
The Billings Police Department began investigating Westervelt in July , according to charging documents. He had allegedly been exchanging sexually explicit messages with an underage girl before raping her.
