Dancing will soon be allowed for bridal parties in Tasmania, but the ban on dancing in larger groups will remain. Premier Peter Gutwein said he had been contacted by a number of brides β but "not that many grooms" β who wanted to have the traditional bridal dance on their wedding night. Mr Gutwein said dancing in nightclubs remains banned because it is considered a high-risk activity in the midst of a pandemic. Karaoke, eight-ball, snooker and darts are all allowed from today.
Mr Gutwein also announced new quarantine arrangements for people returning to Tasmania from the three COVID hotspots in Queensland that were declared on Wednesday β the local government areas of Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan. Tasmanians who have spent time in those areas in the 14 days before returning home need to spend their 14 days of quarantine in a government-run quarantine hotel. From next week, everyone arriving in the state, including essential travellers, will have temperature and symptom checks on arrival.
Tasmania's state of emergency, which was due to end on Sunday, will be extended for two months until the end of October. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the lands where we live, learn, and work.
