The public is welcome. It's sure to be an exciting and productive school year, and this event will be a fun way to kick off our partnership. During the school year, BJ's will work with Village Elementary School to provide fund-raising assistance, product donations, volunteer support, awards programs and community-service opportunities. In its fifth year, BJ's has expanded the Adopt-A-School program to include a total of elementary schools for the school year, providing assistance to more than 60, students in 14 eastern states.
That number has increased from schools adopted by BJ's last year. The event will feature a special presentation at noon to Village Elementary School. There will be a Creation Station in which children are invited to make ghost pops to take home. In addition, children will have the opportunity to create haunted Halloween cards for donation to a local nursing home.
There will also be a "spooky coloring contest. The event coincides with USA Weekend's national Make A Difference Day to give children a chance to share through community service and to learn that their actions can make a difference.
BJ's will host a Bibs for Babes project in which children and their families can decorate bibs to benefit infants in need through the Salvation Army. BJ's in Portsmouth is just one of BJ's Wholesale Clubs participating chainwide to donate a total of 6, bibs to local hospitals, shelters, and children's agencies in the communities BJ's serve.

Colin Powell, America's Promise joins the public and private sectors to provide five fundamental resources for America's children: an ongoing relationship with a caring adult, a safe place and structured activities, a healthy start, marketable skills through education, and opportunities to give back to society through community service.
