Under the supervision of the Manager of Neighborhood Enhancement, performs property maintenance inspections of commercial and residential properties and issues legal orders to secure compliance with city building, zoning, and related codes.
This inspector's main objective would be focused on inspecting residential, rental, commercial and industrial properties, both interior and exterior, for code compliance. Inspections will be conducted as a result of receiving complaints, by proactive outreach and by a structured canvassing of all areas of the city.

This may require meeting with the property owner and explaining the written orders, if requested. Enforces the Racine Zoning Ordinance and makes investigations and decisions regarding zoning complaints.
Maintains records and prepares reports. Provide testimony, under oath, in municipal court regarding building and zoning code violations. Maintains a consistent and reliable attendance record. Rental unit environment Possible exposure to inclement weather while performing inspections.
