I am currently waiting to board my flight from Copenhagen, Denmark to London Heathrow, United Kingdom and will be no doubt be continuing to write this entry once airborne, such is the volume of events since my last entry. I will give as brief an explanation of the past eight months. I must admit, it feels more like a year. I have come to think of myself as actually leading two lives.
I spend a period in Australia, then a period overseas, and since a year is the standard measure of a suitable excerpt of a lifetime, it does seem to fit that each of my periods of time spent here or there be termed a year. Yes, goodness, It is a frightening age. It is far apart from 21 and 25, each being a large cause for celebration or pre-mid-life crisis, respectively.
I hesitantly term 23 as a forgettable age. In all honesty, I have genuinely forgotten that I am 23 and have still accidentally claimed to be In a sense, knowing this is slightly dangerous. That said, the last few months have certainly been full of milestones! To begin with, I returned home to Sydney in order to resume racing the 18ft skiffs, beginning my fourth season as helmsman in the Formula 1 class of sailing boat.
I was proud to be able to jump back onto the boat with the same crew members as the previous season; the young gun Iain Wood on the bow and the legendary Mark Muirhead on mainsheet. I was equally proud to be be representing the Italian kitchen appliance company of ILVE as my primary sponsor again for the second season.
ILVE were also stoked to have me as their skipper, so much so that they bought a full new set of big rig sails for us. We chose big rig sails because, being the lightest team in the fleet, light winds favour us so we wanted to give ourselves the best chance.
