We are an ACGME fully accredited training program in General Psychiatry, committed to training culturally competent outstanding physicians skilled in the diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders.
Our program offers a training experience that effectively balances excellent training in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy and produces graduates well-prepared for board certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. We are dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the well-being of our trainees and have developed a robust Wellness Initiative that includes resident leadership.
Within our community-based program, our residents rotate at the major hospitals in El Paso and receive training and supervision from university and community volunteer faculty. This combination provides residents with exposure to a wide range of psychiatric conditions and patient populations. We have a strong didactic core curriculum emphasizing neurology, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and addiction medicine among other topics.
Additionally, our residents participate in required scholarly projects with opportunities to participate in clinical research, to present at regional and national academic meetings, and to publish original research in peer-reviewed medical journals.
