So when it rains what is the best thing to do? The prices are really reasonable and you always get a speculoos biscuit with your drink and a sweet with your bill. There are newspapers and books scattered everywhere, so it just invites you to curl up with a drink at one of their cute tables with a book and sit for a couple of hours, forgetting everything around you.
Maybe that will be the silver lining of all this rain! Well it seems that Strasbourg has finally found some nice weather this week. The trailer looks brilliant, so I thought I would read it before seeing it. Books in France tend to be priced according to the number of pages they contain — these two brand new would have set me back about 12 euros instead of 3, so all in all my bargain hunting paid off. Wednesday afternoon a friend and I took bikes for a ride around Strasbourg. The perfect afternoon was finished off by eating an ice cream in La Petite France with the sun blazing down on us.
Yesterday I have to say was blighted by my hay fever and I spend most of the day hiding inside. Apart from the evening when I had the ultimate French experience cycling along with a baguette in my hand and then ended up in the basement of a bar listening to funk music.
This week is really the beginning of the end of my time in Strasbourg. I finished my job last Thursday on fantastic terms with one school and on terrible terms with the other.
The word chouette has a double meaning — cool and owl making it quite a corny joke with a nice sentiment. Having such good and bad collegues has shown me that I really need to be able to work with nice people to enjoy a job. That went pretty smoothly apart from the hour delay at Lille which earned me a free one way ticket on the Eurostar to use another time, then missing my connection in London up to Birmingham.
